Third-year classrooms in Korea are shifting into early-admission season. But there is a date that arrives before the application window opens: Monday 31 August 2026. That is the school record cut-off date set by the Korean Council for University Education for the 2027 early admission cycle. Anything a student does after that day, however impressive, will not appear in the record submitted for early admission. Because it is easy for students and parents to assume that a strong second semester can still make up ground, it is worth being precise about exactly what the cut-off date closes.

There are two cut-off dates, not one

The 2027 University Admission Basic Guidelines set separate school record cut-off dates for each admission round.

In other words, the same student's record exists in two different versions. Anything entered between September and November is absent from the early admission file and present in the regular admission one. Second-semester midterm grades and autumn activities fall into that gap.

What 31 August closes

The Ministry of Education's guidelines on compiling and managing school records require first-semester subject achievement for high schools to be entered by 31 August of that school year. That is why the early admission cut-off and the first-semester deadline land on the same day. The items settled at this point are broadly these.

• Third-year first-semester subject grades — raw score, subject average, achievement level and rank
• Creative experiential activities and subject-specific remarks through the first semester
• Attendance — absences, late arrivals, early departures recorded up to the first semester

Conversely, second-semester midterms, club and volunteer activity from September onward, and anything recorded in autumn will not appear in the early admission record. This is why, for a student applying through early admission, the third-year first semester is effectively the final one.

The twelve days between cut-off and delivery

The cut-off is 31 August, but the files do not reach universities until 12 September. Those twelve days are the window in which schools verify and generate the data. The guidelines specify that provincial and metropolitan offices of education transmit the records online through the national education information system. Students do not collect a paper transcript and post it to a university themselves.

There is something for students to do during this period: when a homeroom teacher asks for confirmation, read your own record and check that nothing is stated incorrectly. Note, though, that corrections require supporting evidence and go through review, so starting one just before applications open leaves very little room.

Past graduates must check the delivery scope

This is the part repeat applicants most often miss. The guidelines split online record delivery into two tracks.

If you graduated earlier than February 2022, nothing is generated unless you act. You have to log in to the admission data online generation system, verify your own record and request that it be created before it goes anywhere. Applicants who qualified through the high school equivalency examination must likewise apply separately through their provincial office of education's public NEIS service if they want online delivery. For anyone returning to apply after a long gap, this is worth settling before the application itself.

Applications open on 7 September

The 2027 early admission schedule runs as follows.

Each university chooses at least three days within that five-day window at its own discretion. They therefore do not all close at the same time. The actual deadline for a given university has to be checked in its own admission guide, and applications are submitted not through university websites but through the central application platforms.

The six-application limit still applies

Once the cut-off is understood, the next decision is where to spend the applications. The limit of six early and three regular applications remains in force for 2027. That means six choices have to be allocated using only the record as it stands on 31 August and the mock exam results already in hand. Since there is no room to adjust for second-semester grades, the cut-off date is also the point at which an application strategy has to be finalised.

What can still be done in the days remaining

Nothing in the days before 31 August will transform a school record. Records accumulate over a semester; they are not manufactured at the deadline. Even so, a few things are still worth doing.

• Submit any outstanding activity report or reflection due for the first semester. These give teachers the material from which subject-specific remarks are written.
• Check that attendance has not been recorded incorrectly. Sick leave that was documented but logged as unexcused does genuinely happen.
• Look at basic details such as name and enrolment history. They seem trivial until a document cross-check fails.

In order, then: finish first-semester records by 31 August, read your own record when the school verifies it in early September, confirm whether you fall inside the automatic delivery scope if you are a past graduate and request generation if not, and submit between 7 and 11 September according to your university's own deadline. The fact that a second semester remains matters for regular admission. For the early admission file, it is already history.
